A one-of-a-kind handmade raku vessel featuring a smoky charcoal body, richly textured bronze and copper-toned accents, and an elegant, elongated silhouette. Its broad, gently rounded shoulders taper toward a narrower base, while the flared mouth and textured lower section frame the smooth, atmospheric finish. Subtle variations of gray, blue-black, and warm metallic coloration give the surface remarkable depth. The combination of sculptural form and unpredictable firing effects makes this a striking decorative statement piece.

Raku firing has its roots in a centuries-old Japanese ceramic tradition dating to the sixteenth century. Contemporary raku firing involves removing glazed pottery from the kiln while still extremely hot and placing it with combustible materials in a reduced-oxygen environment. The interaction of heat, smoke, glaze, and atmosphere creates distinctive colors, textures, and unpredictable variations that make every piece unique.

Handmade in the Pacific Northwest by ceramic artist Jacob Virnig.
