A one-of-a-kind handmade saggar-fired ceramic vessel with rich terracotta-red, warm copper-orange, and smoky charcoal tones. Irregular patches of silver-gray, soft cream, and dark atmospheric markings spread across its rounded surface, creating an almost weathered, ancient appearance. The gently tapered base and understated opening give the piece a simple, elegant silhouette that allows its remarkable surface patterns to take center stage.
Saggar firing is a ceramic technique in which pottery is enclosed during firing, allowing the surrounding atmosphere and materials to influence its coloration. The interaction of heat, smoke, and other firing elements produces distinctive, unpredictable patterns that make each finished piece unique.
Handmade in the Pacific Northwest by ceramic artist Jacob Virnig.
